  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk or milk + 1 tsp vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup softened butter
  • cup sugar for topping
  • 1 tsp cinnamon for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Set the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan with butter or spray.

Make the Batter

  • In a large bowl, mix butter, sugar, and egg until creamy. Add buttermilk, flour, and baking soda. Mix until smooth.

Make the Cinnamon Sugar

  • In a small bowl, mix ⅓ cup sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon.

Layer the Batter

  • Pour half the batter into the loaf pan. Sprinkle half the cinnamon sugar mix. Add the rest of the batter, then top with remaining cinnamon sugar.

Swirl It

  • Use a knife to gently swirl the cinnamon sugar into the batter.

Bake the Bread

  • Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool and Serve

  • Let it cool for 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Don’t overmix the batter for a soft texture.
  • Use room-temperature butter and egg.
  • Add chopped nuts for extra crunch.
  • Wrap and store in foil to keep it moist.
  • You can double the recipe and freeze one loaf.
