Ingredients
  

  • Large shrimp peeled and deveined – 1 lb
  • Quick grits – 1 cup
  • Water or chicken broth – 3 cups
  • Butter – 3 tablespoons
  • Cheddar cheese shredded – 1 cup
  • Garlic minced – 2 cloves
  • Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
  • Paprika – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt – to taste
  • Olive oil – 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions chopped – 2 tablespoons

Cook the Grits

  • In a saucepan, bring water or broth to a boil. Add grits slowly while stirring. Reduce heat and cook until thick and creamy. Stir often to avoid lumps.

Add Butter and Cheese

  • Add butter and shredded cheese to the cooked grits. Stir until melted and smooth. This makes the grits rich and creamy. Keep warm on low heat.

Prepare the Shrimp

  • Wash and pat dry the shrimp. Place them in a bowl. Add salt, pepper, and paprika. Mix well so all shrimp are coated evenly.

Heat the Skillet

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and cook for a few seconds. Do not burn the garlic.

Cook the Shrimp

  • Add seasoned shrimp to the skillet. Cook for 2–3 minutes on each side. Shrimp should turn pink and tender. Do not overcook them.

Add Lemon Juice

  • Pour lemon juice over the shrimp. Stir gently to mix flavors. This adds freshness and balance to the dish.

Combine and Serve

  • Spoon creamy grits into serving bowls. Top with cooked shrimp. Pour any remaining sauce over the top.

Garnish and Enjoy
