Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

Prepare the patties

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper. Mix until uniform. Form into four patties.

Heat the skillet

  • Add olive oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Let it warm before adding patties for even cooking.

Brown the patties

  • Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned. Remove from skillet and place on a plate to rest while making gravy.

Cook onions and mushrooms

  • Add sliced onions and mushrooms to skillet. Cook until soft and lightly browned, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

Make the gravy

  • Sprinkle flour over onions and mushrooms. Stir and cook 1–2 minutes. Slowly add beef broth and Dijon mustard. Stir until smooth and thick.

Return patties to skillet

  • Place browned patties back into gravy. Simmer gently 5–7 minutes to absorb flavor and heat through completely.

Check seasoning

  • Taste the gravy and add salt or pepper if needed. Ensure patties are tender and sauce is rich and flavorful.

Serve

  • Spoon patties with gravy onto plates. Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or vegetables. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat for tender patties
  • Brown patties first for deeper flavor
  • Cook gravy slowly to avoid lumps
  • Use fresh mushrooms for best taste
  • Let patties rest briefly before serving
