Ingredients

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup Coca Cola
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

For the Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup Coca Cola
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a cake pan lightly with butter or baking spray to prevent sticking during baking.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar and salt. Stir gently until everything mixes evenly for a smooth cake batter later.

Heat Coca Cola Mixture

  • In a saucepan, heat Coca Cola, butter and cocoa powder together. Stir continuously until butter melts completely and the mixture becomes smooth.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Pour the warm chocolate mixture into the dry ingredients carefully. Stir gently until combined and smooth without large lumps remaining inside.

Add Remaining Ingredients

  • Add buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract and baking soda into the batter. Mix gently until the batter becomes creamy and fully combined.

Pour Batter into Pan

  • Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan evenly. Smooth the top using a spatula so the cake bakes evenly in the oven.

Bake the Cake

  • Place the cake pan into the oven. Bake for about 35 minutes until the cake rises well and a toothpick comes out clean.

Prepare the Frosting

  • Heat butter, cocoa powder and Coca Cola in a saucepan. Remove from heat and whisk powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth and glossy.

Frost and Serve

  • Pour warm frosting over the slightly cooled cake. Spread evenly and let it set before slicing and serving this rich chocolate dessert.

Notes

  • Use room temperature eggs for better mixing.
  • Do not overmix the cake batter.
  • Fresh cocoa powder gives deeper flavor.
  • Let cake cool slightly before frosting.
  • Use full-fat buttermilk for moisture.
  • Sift powdered sugar for smooth frosting.
  • Grease pan properly to avoid sticking.
  • Add chopped nuts for crunch.
  • Check cake early to avoid overbaking.
