Ingredients

  • 2 lbs baby back ribs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper optional for spice
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar optional for sweetness

Instructions

Prepare the Ribs

  • Remove the silver skin from the back of the ribs. This helps make them tender. Pat the ribs dry with a paper towel.

Make the Dry Rub

  • In a small bowl, mix garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, black pepper, salt and cayenne. Stir until evenly combined.

Apply Olive Oil

  • Brush both sides of the ribs lightly with olive oil. This helps the spices stick and keeps the meat moist.

Rub the Spices

  • Rub the spice mixture evenly over both sides of the ribs. Make sure every inch is coated with flavor.

Wrap in Foil

  • Place the ribs on a large sheet of aluminum foil. Wrap them tightly to keep steam inside. This keeps the meat tender while cooking.

Bake the Ribs

  • Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Bake the foil-wrapped ribs for 2 hours. Low heat makes the ribs soft and juicy.

Add Barbecue Sauce

  • Remove ribs from the oven. Open the foil carefully. Brush barbecue sauce over the ribs. Add brown sugar for a caramelized finish if desired.

Broil or Grill

  • Place ribs under the broiler for 5–7 minutes or on a hot grill. Watch carefully so the sauce does not burn.

Rest the Ribs

  • Remove the ribs and let them rest for 5 minutes. This helps the juices stay inside.

Slice and Serve

  • Use a sharp knife to slice between the bones. Serve hot with your favorite sides.

Notes

  • Remove the silver skin for more tender ribs.
  • Cook slowly at low heat for best results.
  • Brush sauce at the end to prevent burning.
  • Use a mix of spices for balanced flavor.
  • Let ribs rest before slicing for juicy meat.
