Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes peeled and cut
  • ½ cup butter
  • ¾ cup heavy cream or milk
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste
  • 2 garlic cloves optional, for extra flavor
  • Fresh parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

Prepare the Potatoes

  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into even chunks. This helps them cook evenly. You can use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes.

Boil the Potatoes

  • Place the potatoes in a large pot. Add enough water to cover them. Sprinkle in some salt. Boil for 15–20 minutes until the potatoes are soft. You can check by poking them with a fork.

Drain the Potatoes

  • Once soft, drain the water completely. Let the potatoes sit for a minute to remove extra moisture. This step makes your mash creamy, not watery.

Mash the Potatoes

  • Use a potato masher or hand mixer to mash them. Do this while the potatoes are still warm. They will mash easily.

Add Butter and Cream

  • Warm the butter and cream together in a small pot. Then pour it into the mashed potatoes. Mix slowly until the potatoes become smooth and creamy.

Season Well

  • Add salt and pepper to taste. If you like, add garlic for more flavor. Mix again until everything blends well.

Serve Warm

  • Scoop the mashed potatoes into a bowl. Add a small piece of butter on top. Let it melt and garnish with fresh parsley if you like. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Use Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes for the best texture.
  • Don’t overmix or the potatoes may turn gluey.
  • Warm the butter and cream before adding to the mash.
  • Add garlic or herbs for extra flavor.
  • Mash while potatoes are hot for a smoother finish.
