Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter xylitol-free
  • ¼ cup grated carrot optional

For the Frosting:

  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter xylitol-free

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease the cake pan lightly. This prevents sticking and helps the cake cook evenly.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a mixing bowl, add whole wheat flour and baking powder. Stir gently to combine. This creates a smooth base for the batter.

Mix Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, combine applesauce, Greek yogurt, egg and peanut butter. Mix until smooth and creamy. Add grated carrot if using.

Combine Wet and Dry

  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients. Stir gently until fully combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cake soft.

Pour into Pan

  • Transfer batter into the prepared cake pan. Spread evenly with a spatula. Smooth the top for even baking.

Bake the Cake

  • Place the pan in the oven. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes. A toothpick inserted should come out clean. Remove from oven carefully.

Cool the Cake

  • Place cake on a cooling rack. Let it cool completely before frosting. This prevents the frosting from melting.

Prepare the Frosting

  • Mix Greek yogurt and peanut butter in a small bowl until smooth. The frosting should be creamy but not runny.

Frost the Cake

  • Spread frosting evenly over the cooled cake. Decorate with dog-friendly treats or small carrot pieces. Keep it simple and safe.

Serve and Celebrate

  • Cut small slices for your dog. Let your dog enjoy the cake with supervision. Store leftovers safely for later treats.

Notes

  • Always use xylitol-free peanut butter for safety.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting.
  • Use plain Greek yogurt to avoid added sugar.
  • Grated carrot adds natural sweetness and texture.
  • Small dog treats can decorate the top safely.
  • Serve in small portions to avoid stomach upset.
