Ingredients

  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons honey or sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon mustard powder
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

Combine the Base Ingredients

  • Add ketchup, apple cider vinegar, honey and water to a small saucepan. Whisk everything together until smooth. This mixture forms the sweet and tangy base of the dressing.

Heat the Mixture

  • Place the saucepan over low heat. Warm the mixture gently while stirring. Do not boil it. Heating helps dissolve the honey and blend the flavors evenly.

Add the Seasonings

  • Add paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard powder, salt and black pepper. Whisk slowly until the spices mix well. These seasonings give Catalina dressing its rich flavor.

Add the Worcestershire Sauce

  • Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and stir well. This ingredient adds a deep savory taste that balances the sweetness of the dressing.

Cool the Mixture

  • Remove the saucepan from heat. Let the mixture cool for about five minutes. Cooling helps keep the oil from separating when blending.

Blend the Dressing

  • Pour the mixture into a blender. Slowly add the vegetable oil while blending. Blend until the dressing becomes smooth, thick and slightly creamy.

Taste and Adjust Flavor

  • Taste the dressing. Add a little more honey for sweetness or vinegar for tang. Blend again for a few seconds to mix the flavors evenly.

Transfer to a Jar

  • Pour the finished dressing into a clean jar or bottle. Seal it tightly with a lid. Shake gently before serving.

Chill Before Serving

  • Place the jar in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This helps the flavors combine and taste even better.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Shake the dressing well before using. Pour it over your favorite salad or use it as a marinade or dipping sauce.

Notes

  • Use fresh apple cider vinegar for the best flavor.
  • Blend slowly while adding oil to create a smooth texture.
  • Adjust sweetness depending on your taste preference.
  • Store the dressing in a glass jar for longer freshness.
  • Shake well before each use because natural ingredients may separate.
