Ingredients
  

  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Baking soda – 1 teaspoon
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground nutmeg – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Unsalted butter – ½ cup softened
  • Brown sugar – 1 cup
  • Egg – 1 large
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Milk – 1 cup

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease your cake pan well and set it aside.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

Cream Butter and Sugar

  • In another bowl, beat butter and brown sugar until soft, fluffy, and smooth.

Add Egg and Vanilla

  • Add egg and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined and creamy.

Combine Wet and Dry

  • Add dry mix slowly to wet mix. Pour in milk gently while mixing.

Mix Batter Smooth

  • Stir until batter looks smooth. Do not overmix or cake becomes dense.

Pour into Pan

  • Pour batter into prepared pan. Spread evenly with a spatula.

Bake the Cake

  • Bake for 35 minutes. A toothpick should come out clean when ready.

Cool the Cake

  • Remove cake from oven. Let it cool on a rack before slicing.

Notes

  • Use room temperature butter for best texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter.
  • Add raisins for extra sweetness.
