Ingredients

  • Honey 1 cup
  • Water ½ cup
  • Fresh peppermint leaves 10–12 leaves
  • Whiskey 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice 1 tablespoon
  • Ground ginger ½ teaspoon
  • Cinnamon stick 1 (optional)

Instructions

Heat Water and Honey

  • Add water and honey to a small saucepan. Heat on low until honey dissolves fully.

Add Peppermint Leaves

  • Add fresh peppermint leaves to the pan. Stir gently and let them steep.

Add Ginger and Cinnamon

  • Add ground ginger and cinnamon stick. Stir for one minute to mix flavors.

Simmer Gently

  • Let the mixture simmer for five minutes. Keep heat low so it does not boil.

Remove from Heat

  • Turn off the stove. Let the mixture cool for two minutes.

Strain the Syrup

  • Pour the syrup through a fine strainer. Remove leaves and cinnamon pieces.

Add Lemon Juice

  • Add lemon juice to the warm syrup. Stir well to blend the flavor.

Add Whiskey

  • Add whiskey last. Stir gently so the alcohol mixes evenly.

Cool Completely

  • Let the syrup cool completely before storing. This keeps it fresh longer.

Pour into Jar

  • Pour the syrup into a clean glass jar. Seal the lid tightly.

Label the Jar

  • Label the jar with the date and name. This helps track freshness.

Store in Fridge

  • Store the syrup in the fridge. Keep it cool to stay safe and fresh.

Shake Before Use

  • Shake the jar before each use. Honey can settle at the bottom.

Take a Dose

  • Take one tablespoon when cough feels strong. Do not exceed three doses per day.

Stop if Needed

  • If your cough worsens or you feel sick, stop using it. See a doctor if needed.

Notes

  • Use raw honey for best soothing effect.
  • Fresh peppermint works better than dried leaves.
  • Do not boil the mixture to keep honey nutrients.
  • Use a small amount of whiskey for safety.
  • Always label and date your syrup.
Important note: This syrup contains alcohol. Do not give it to children, pregnant women or anyone who should avoid alcohol. If your cough is severe or lasts more than a few days, see a doctor.
