Homemade Shea Butter Lotion Recipe

Homemade shea butter lotion is natural, creamy and perfect for soft, healthy skin. Making it at home saves money and avoids chemicals. This lotion is easy to make, smells amazing and absorbs quickly.

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup shea butter
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 cup almond oil or jojoba oil
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax pellets
  • 10 –15 drops essential oil lavender, rose, or your choice
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil

Instructions
 

Melt the Ingredients

  • In a double boiler, melt shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax until fully liquid.

Add Liquid Oil

  • Remove from heat. Stir in almond or jojoba oil until completely mixed and smooth.

Cool Slightly

  • Let mixture cool for 5 minutes. It should be warm but not hardening.

Add Essential Oil

  • Add 10–15 drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance. Stir gently.

Optional Vitamin E

  • Add vitamin E oil for extra skin nourishment. Mix well into the warm lotion.

Whip the Lotion

  • Use a hand mixer or whisk to whip lotion for 2–3 minutes until fluffy and creamy.

Transfer to Jar

  • Spoon whipped lotion into a clean glass jar or container. Smooth the top with spatula.

Let Set

  • Allow lotion to cool and set completely at room temperature, about 30 minutes.

Label Your Jar

  • Write the date and scent on your jar. Store in a cool, dry place.

Use Daily

  • Apply a small amount on hands, body or dry skin. Massage gently until absorbed.

Notes

  • Use unrefined shea butter for best results
  • Melt oils gently to avoid burning
  • Whip lotion for fluffier texture
  • Adjust essential oil drops to your preference
  • Store in a clean, airtight jar for freshness
