Ingredients

  • 1 large carrot grated
  • 1 apple grated or finely chopped
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ¼ cup molasses or honey
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup warm water as needed

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Grate the Fruits

  • Grate the carrot and apple into small pieces. You can also finely chop them if you prefer.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, mix oats and flour. Stir until evenly combined.

Add Wet Ingredients

  • Pour in molasses, vegetable oil, and warm water. Mix until soft and sticky.

Add the Fruits

  • Fold in the grated carrot and apple. Mix until everything blends well together.

Shape the Treats

  • Scoop a spoonful of dough and roll it into a small ball or flat cookie shape.

Place on the Sheet

  • Arrange them on the baking sheet, leaving some space between each piece.

Bake the Treats

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and firm.

Cool Down

  • Remove from the oven and let the treats cool completely before serving.

Serve and Store

  • Give one or two to your horse as a reward. Store the rest in an airtight jar.

Notes

  • You can replace molasses with honey or unsweetened applesauce.
  • For crunchier treats, bake for 30 minutes instead of 25.
  • Add a pinch of cinnamon for a lovely smell.
  • Always let treats cool before giving them to your horse.
  • Store in a cool, dry place for up to two weeks.
