- 1 medium onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
- ½ cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ cup ketchup for glaze
- 2 tbsp brown sugar for glaze
- 1 tbsp Dijon mustard for glaze
Prepare the Onion and Garlic
Mix Meatloaf Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, soaked breadcrumbs, sautéed onion, garlic, eggs, salt, pepper, thyme, and oregano.
Prepare the Glaze
In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard until smooth. This will give a sweet and tangy topping.
Spread the Glaze
Spread half of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf before baking. Reserve the remaining glaze for later.
Bake the Meatloaf
Place the pan in the preheated oven. Bake for 1 hour, checking that the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Use fresh herbs if available for better aroma and taste.
- Do not overmix the meat to avoid a dense meatloaf.
- Let the meatloaf rest before slicing for cleaner cuts.
- Adjust glaze sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
- Add a small amount of Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture for depth of flavor.
