For the pastry:
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup cold butter cubed
- ½ cup cold shortening cubed
- ¼ cup cold water
- 1 tsp turmeric powder for color
For the filling:
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 Scotch bonnet pepper minced (optional for heat)
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp allspice
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- ½ cup beef broth
- 2 green onions chopped
- 1 tsp thyme dried
- 1 egg beaten (for brushing)
Add Spices and Tomato Paste
Mix in paprika, allspice, thyme, salt, black pepper, and tomato paste. Stir well.
- Chill the dough well to get a flaky crust.
- Do not overfill, or patties may burst while baking.
- Use a fork to seal edges tightly for a neat look.
- Adjust Scotch bonnet pepper based on spice preference.
