Ingredients

  • 3 large ripe bananas mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

Prepare the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line your loaf pan with parchment paper. Lightly grease the pan for easy removal later.

Mash the Bananas

  • Place the ripe bananas in a large bowl. Mash them well with a fork. Keep going until mostly smooth.

Add the Wet Ingredients

  • Pour in the melted butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla extract. Mix everything until smooth and creamy.

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, salt and cinnamon. Stir well so every ingredient spreads evenly.

Combine the Mixtures

  • Slowly add the dry mixture into the banana mixture. Stir gently with a spatula. Do not overmix the batter.

Add Walnuts and Chocolate Chips

  • Fold in the chopped walnuts and chocolate chips. Stir only a few times. This keeps the bread soft.

Pour into the Pan

  • Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan. Spread the top gently with a spatula until even.

Bake the Bread

  • Bake the banana bread for 55 minutes. The top should look golden. A toothpick should come out clean.

Cool Before Slicing

  • Remove the bread from the oven. Let it cool for 15 minutes. Then move it to a rack.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor.
  • Do not overmix the batter. This can make the bread heavy.
  • Add extra chocolate chips on top before baking.
  • If you dislike walnuts, leave them out.
  • You can use pecans instead of walnuts.
  • Check the bread after 50 minutes.
  • Cover the top with foil if it browns too fast.
  • Let the bread cool before slicing.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container.
