Ingredients

  • Eggs – 8 large
  • Milk – 2 cups
  • Breakfast sausage – 300g
  • Bread slices – 6 cut into cubes
  • Cheddar cheese – 1½ cups shredded
  • Onion – 1 small chopped
  • Bell pepper – 1 chopped
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Black pepper – ½ tsp
  • Garlic powder – ½ tsp

Instructions

Cook the Sausage

  • Heat a frying pan over medium heat. Add sausage and cook until brown. Break it into small pieces while cooking. Drain extra oil to keep the casserole light.

Prepare the Vegetables

  • Add chopped onion and bell pepper to the pan. Cook for a few minutes until soft. This step adds flavor and a slight sweetness to the dish.

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a baking dish lightly. This prevents sticking and helps the casserole cook evenly from all sides.

Arrange Bread and Meat

  • Place bread cubes in the baking dish. Spread cooked sausage and vegetables on top. Make sure everything is evenly distributed for balanced flavor.

Mix Egg Mixture

  • In a large bowl, whisk eggs and milk together. Add salt, pepper and garlic powder. Mix well until smooth. This creates the creamy base of the casserole.

Combine Everything

  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread and sausage. Press gently so bread absorbs liquid. Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top for a rich and cheesy layer.

Bake the Casserole

  • Place the dish in the oven. Bake for 35–40 minutes until set and golden. The center should be firm. Let it cool slightly before cutting into slices.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Cut into squares and serve warm. Enjoy this hearty breakfast with your family. It is filling, tasty and perfect for starting your day right.

Notes

  • Use slightly stale bread for better texture.
  • Cook sausage fully before adding to the dish.
  • Do not skip preheating the oven.
  • Add spinach or mushrooms for extra nutrition.
  • Let casserole rest before slicing for clean pieces.
