Ingredients

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 cup chocolate frosting for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease your cake pans with butter. You can also line them with parchment paper for easy removal after baking.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, add flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix well until everything is combined evenly without lumps.

Add Wet Ingredients

  • Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil and vanilla extract to the dry mix. Beat using a mixer or whisk until the batter becomes smooth and well blended.

Add Hot Water

  • Slowly pour hot water into the batter. Mix carefully. The batter will look thin, but this makes the cake soft and moist after baking.

Pour into Pans

  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Use a spatula to smooth the top. This helps the cake bake evenly.

Bake the Cake

  • Place the pans in the oven. Bake for 30–35 minutes. Check with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready.

Cool the Cake

  • Remove the pans from the oven. Let them cool for 10 minutes. Then transfer cakes to a cooling rack. Let them cool completely before frosting.

Frost and Serve

  • Spread chocolate frosting over the cooled cake. You can layer or keep it simple. Slice and serve for a delicious chocolate treat.

Notes

  • Use good quality cocoa powder for better flavor
  • Do not overmix the batter
  • Always preheat the oven before baking
  • Let cake cool fully before frosting
  • Add coffee instead of water for deeper flavor
  • Use room temperature eggs for better mixing
  • Store in airtight container for freshness
