Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup cola drink
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons cola drink
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan lightly. This step ensures your cake does not stick and bakes evenly.

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt and baking soda. Mix well using a whisk. This helps distribute all ingredients evenly before adding wet ingredients.

Prepare Cola Mixture

  • In a saucepan, add butter, cocoa powder and cola drink. Heat on medium until butter melts completely. Stir continuously to combine everything into a smooth chocolate mixture.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients

  • Pour the warm cola mixture into the dry ingredients. Mix gently until smooth. Do not overmix. This helps keep the cake soft and fluffy after baking.

Add Eggs and Buttermilk

  • Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract to the batter. Mix until fully combined. The batter should be smooth and slightly thin in consistency.

Bake the Cake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 30–35 minutes. Insert a toothpick in the center. If it comes out clean, the cake is ready.

Prepare the Frosting

  • In a saucepan, melt butter. Add cocoa powder and cola drink. Stir well. Remove from heat and mix in powdered sugar and vanilla extract until smooth and glossy.

Frost the Cake

  • Pour warm frosting over the hot cake. Spread evenly using a spatula. Let it set for a few minutes. The frosting will slightly soak into the cake.

Cool and Serve

  • Allow the cake to cool before slicing. Cut into squares and serve. Enjoy your homemade Joanna Gaines Chocolate Cola Cake Recipe with family and friends.
