Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread or Italian bread
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil for easy cleanup and to prevent the bread from sticking.

Slice the Bread

  • Cut the bread loaf in half lengthwise. If the loaf is thick, you can slice it into smaller pieces for even baking. Place it on the prepared baking sheet.

Make the Garlic Butter

  • In a small bowl, combine softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt and black pepper. Mix well to create a smooth, flavorful garlic butter.

Spread the Garlic Butter

  • Use a knife or pastry brush to spread the garlic butter evenly over the cut side of the bread. Make sure every piece has a good layer of butter and garlic.

Add Parmesan Cheese

  • If using Parmesan cheese, sprinkle it evenly over the top of the garlic butter. This adds extra flavor and a slightly crispy texture when baked.

Bake the Bread

  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven. Bake for about 12–15 minutes until the bread is golden brown on the edges and the butter has melted fully.

Broil for Extra Crispiness

  • Optional: Turn on the broiler for 1–2 minutes to get a crispy top. Watch carefully so it doesn’t burn.

Cool Slightly

  • Remove the garlic bread from the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes to make slicing easier and to prevent burns from hot butter.

Slice and Serve

  • Cut the bread into individual servings. Serve immediately while warm and fragrant. Enjoy the soft, buttery, garlicky goodness.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor.
  • Let the butter soften to spread easily on the bread.
  • Slice the bread evenly for uniform baking.
  • Sprinkle extra herbs or cheese if desired.
  • Serve warm for maximum flavor and texture.
  • Use a broiler carefully for a crisp top without burning.
