Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Loaf pan or baking dish
  • Measuring Cups
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board
  • Spatula
  • Meat thermometer

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • For the glaze:
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F. Lightly grease a loaf pan or baking dish. This prevents sticking and helps the meatloaf cook evenly.

Mix the Meat

  • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion and minced garlic. Mix gently with clean hands until just combined.

Add Wet Ingredients

  • Add eggs, milk, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce. Sprinkle salt and pepper. Mix again gently until everything is blended evenly.

Shape the Loaf

  • Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan. Shape it into a loaf. Press lightly so it holds together but stays tender.

Make the Glaze

  • In a small bowl, mix ketchup, brown sugar and mustard. Stir until smooth. Spread this glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.

Bake the Meatloaf

  • Place the pan in the oven. Bake for about 55 minutes. The top should look caramelized and slightly sticky.

Check for Doneness

  • Use a meat thermometer to check the center. It should read 160°F. This ensures the meatloaf is fully cooked and safe to eat.

Rest and Slice

  • Remove the meatloaf from the oven. Let it rest for ten minutes before slicing. This keeps the juices inside and makes slicing easier.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat. It can become tough.
  • Use fresh breadcrumbs for softer texture.
  • Let the meatloaf rest before cutting.
  • Add chopped parsley for extra flavor.
  • Use a thermometer for perfect cooking.
