Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder boneless – 1.5 kg
  • Olive oil – 2 tablespoons
  • Brown sugar – 3 tablespoons
  • Paprika – 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Onion powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Apple cider vinegar – 1/4 cup
  • BBQ sauce – 1 cup
  • Water – 1/2 cup

Instructions

Prepare the Pork

  • Preheat your oven to 160°C. Pat the pork dry using paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick well and gives better flavor during slow cooking.

Make the Spice Rub

  • In a bowl, mix brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and black pepper. Stir well until all spices combine evenly for a balanced flavor.

Season the Meat

  • Rub olive oil all over the pork. Then apply the spice mix evenly. Press gently so it sticks well. This step adds deep flavor to the meat.

Place in Cooking Dish

  • Put the seasoned pork into a roasting pan or Dutch oven. Add water and apple cider vinegar around the meat. This keeps it moist while cooking.

Cover and Cook Slowly

  • Cover the dish with foil or a lid. Place it in the oven. Cook for about 4 hours. The slow cooking makes the pork very tender and juicy.

Check for Tenderness

  • After cooking, check the pork using a fork. It should pull apart easily. If not, cook for another 30 minutes until fully tender.

Shred the Pork

  • Remove the pork from the pan. Use two forks to shred it into pieces. It should be soft and fall apart easily without effort.

Add BBQ Sauce

  • Place shredded pork back into the pan. Add BBQ sauce and mix well. Let it cook for another 10 minutes so flavors blend nicely.

Serve Warm

  • Turn off heat and let it rest for a few minutes. Serve warm with your favorite sides. Enjoy the rich and smoky flavor.
