Ingredients

Dry ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt

Wet ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract optional but delicious

Instructions

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • This creates the base for fluffy pancakes.

Mix the Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla.
  • Make sure the melted butter is warm—not hot.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

  • Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients.

Mix gently until just combined.

  • A few lumps are fine—overmixing makes pancakes tough.

Heat the Pan

  • Warm a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  • Lightly grease with butter or oil.

Cook the Pancakes

  • Pour ¼ cup batter for each pancake onto the hot surface.
  • Cook until bubbles appear and edges look set.
  • Flip and cook the other side until golden brown.

Serve Warm

  • Serve immediately with butter, syrup, fruit, or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the batter—lumps keep pancakes soft.
  • Let the batter rest for 5 minutes before cooking.
  • Use medium heat to avoid burning.
  • Add chocolate chips, berries, or nuts for flavor variations.
  • Grease the pan lightly—too much oil prevents even browning.
