Ingredients

  • 1 package 14 oz little smokies sausages
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ½ cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon hot sauce for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prepare the Sauce

  • In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, barbecue sauce, garlic powder, onion powder and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to mix all ingredients evenly.

Heat the Sauce

  • Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar dissolves and the sauce starts to bubble gently. This takes about 2–3 minutes.

Add Little Smokies

  • Add the little smokies sausages into the saucepan. Stir them so every sausage is coated with the sauce. Make sure the sauce covers all the sausages evenly.

Simmer the Sausages

  • Reduce heat to low. Let the sausages simmer in the sauce for 10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking and to keep the sausages coated.

Optional Spice

  • If you like spicy flavors, add hot sauce during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Stir to mix evenly with the sweet sauce.

Check for Glaze

  • After simmering, check that the sauce is thick and glossy. The sausages should look caramelized and fully coated with sauce.

Serve Warm

  • Transfer the Mississippi Little Smokies to a serving dish. Serve immediately while warm. They are best enjoyed fresh and sticky from the sauce.

Notes

  • Use your favorite barbecue sauce for different flavor profiles.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  • Adjust sugar or honey for more or less sweetness.
  • Add a splash of hot sauce if you like heat.
  • Serve in a slow cooker to keep warm at parties.
  • Toothpicks make them easier to serve as appetizers.
