For the Pastry
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 cup cold butter cubed
- 1 egg for brushing
- 6 tbsp cold water
For the Filling
- 1 cup ground beef
- 1 medium potato diced
- 1 small carrot diced
- ½ small onion chopped
- 1 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp oil
- ½ tsp thyme
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ¼ cup water
Prepare the Filling
Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and cook until soft. Add ground beef and stir until browned.
Mix in diced potatoes and carrots. Cook for 5 minutes. Add thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir in flour to thicken. Add water and cook for 10 minutes until the mix thickens. Let it cool.
Make the Dough
In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt. Add butter cubes. Rub with your fingers until it looks like breadcrumbs.
Add cold water little by little. Mix until a smooth dough forms. Wrap it and chill for 10 minutes.
- Use cold butter for a flaky crust.
- Do not overfill the pies.
- Let the filling cool before adding to dough.
- You can add peas or bell peppers for extra flavor.
- For a golden shine, brush the pies with egg before baking.
