Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 stalks celery chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 6 cups day-old bread cubes
  • ½ teaspoon dried sage
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 eggs beaten

Instructions

Cook the Meat

  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and pork over medium heat. Stir until browned and crumbly. Drain any extra fat.

Add the Vegetables

  • Add butter, chopped onion, and celery to the pan. Cook for 5 minutes until soft and fragrant.

Season the Mix

  • Sprinkle in salt, pepper, sage, and thyme. Stir well to mix the flavors.

Add Bread Cubes

  • Transfer the cooked meat mix to a large bowl. Add bread cubes and toss to combine evenly.

Add Broth and Eggs

  • Pour in chicken broth and beaten eggs. Stir until the bread is moist but not soggy.

Bake the Stuffing

  • Grease a baking dish. Spread the mixture evenly and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes until golden brown on top.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Let the stuffing rest for 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm with your favorite roasted meat.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for better texture and flavor.
  • Don’t overmix; keep the bread pieces slightly firm.
  • Add a splash of broth if it feels too dry.
  • For a richer flavor, use butter and a bit of poultry seasoning.
  • Bake uncovered for a crispy top or covered for softer texture.
