Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon corn syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Extra sugar for coating

Instructions

Prepare the Pan

  • Line a baking dish with parchment paper. Lightly grease it so candy releases easily later.

Mix Sugar and Juice

  • Add sugar, orange juice, corn syrup and salt into a saucepan. Stir gently before heating.

Heat the Mixture

  • Place saucepan on medium heat. Stir slowly until sugar fully dissolves and mixture starts bubbling.

Add Butter

  • Add butter to the hot mixture. Stir until melted and smooth without splashing the hot syrup.

Cook to Temperature

  • Cook until mixture reaches 235°F on a candy thermometer. This takes patience and gentle stirring.

Add Flavor

  • Remove pan from heat. Add orange zest and vanilla extract. Stir carefully to mix flavors well.

Pour and Set

  • Pour candy mixture into prepared dish. Let it cool at room temperature for several hours.

Cut and Coat

  • Once firm, cut into small squares. Roll each piece in sugar to prevent sticking.

Notes

  • Use fresh orange juice for best flavor.
  • Stir gently to avoid air bubbles.
  • Watch temperature closely for proper texture.
  • Do not rush the cooling process.
  • Store candies fully cooled and dry.
