Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar or glaze for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or silicone mat.

Boil Water and Butter

  • In a saucepan, combine water, butter, salt and sugar. Boil until butter melts completely.

Add Flour

  • Remove from heat. Add flour all at once. Stir quickly until mixture forms a smooth ball.

Cool Slightly

  • Let dough cool for 5 minutes. This prevents eggs from cooking when added.

Add Eggs and Vanilla

  • Beat in eggs one at a time. Add vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and glossy.

Prepare Piping Bag

  • Fit a piping bag with a large star tip. Fill with dough for cruller shape.

Pipe Donuts

  • Pipe dough into 3–4 inch rings on prepared baking sheet. Leave space between donuts.

Bake Donuts

  • Bake for 15–20 minutes or until golden and puffed. Do not open oven early.

Cool Donuts

  • Remove from oven. Let donuts cool completely on a wire rack before glazing.

Add Topping

  • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle glaze. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Use a star tip for classic cruller ridges.
  • Cool donuts completely before glazing to avoid melting.
  • Don’t open oven early; donuts may collapse.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon to dough.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep donuts soft.
