For the bread pudding:
- 1 loaf French bread cut into cubes
- 4 cups milk
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup melted butter
For the sauce:
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup butter
- 1 egg beaten
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Make the Custard Mix
In a large bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, and melted butter. Mix until smooth and creamy.
Prepare the Sauce
While the pudding bakes, make the sweet sauce. In a small pan, melt butter and sugar together on low heat. Stir until smooth. Slowly add the beaten egg while stirring fast. Cook for 2 minutes, then remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Use stale bread, not fresh. It helps soak the custard better.
- Always let the bread rest in the milk mix before baking.
- Add raisins, nuts, or even chocolate chips for extra flavor.
- Don’t overbake it. The center should stay soft.
- Drizzle the warm sauce right before serving for the perfect finish.
