Ingredients

  • 1 unbaked pie crust
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Prepare the Oven and Crust

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the pie crust into the pie dish. Press it gently to fit well. Set it aside while preparing the filling.

Mix the Wet Ingredients

  • Take a mixing bowl. Add melted butter and sugar. Mix well until smooth. Add eggs one by one. Whisk until the mixture becomes creamy and light.

Add Buttermilk and Flavor

  • Pour in the buttermilk slowly. Add vanilla extract and lemon juice. Mix gently until everything blends well. This gives the pie its rich and tangy flavor.

Add Dry Ingredients

  • Add flour, cornmeal and salt into the mixture. Stir slowly until smooth. Make sure there are no lumps. The batter should be thin and silky.

Fill the Pie Crust

  • Pour the prepared filling into the pie crust. Spread it evenly using a spatula. Do not overfill. Leave a little space at the top.

Bake the Pie

  • Place the pie in the oven. Bake for 45 to 50 minutes. The top should turn golden. The center should be slightly soft but set.

Cool Before Serving

  • Remove the pie from the oven. Let it cool completely. This helps the filling set properly. Slice gently and serve fresh.

Notes

  • Use fresh buttermilk for best flavor
  • Do not overmix the batter
  • Let the pie cool fully before slicing
  • Use a ready-made crust to save time
  • Bake until the center is just set
