Ingredients

Dough:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg

Filling:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup softened butter

Icing:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Activate the Yeast

  • Mix warm milk, sugar and yeast in a bowl. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy. This shows the yeast is active and ready.

Make the Dough

  • Add flour, salt, melted butter and egg into the yeast mixture. Mix until dough forms. Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and soft.

Let Dough Rise

  • Place dough in a greased bowl. Cover with a cloth and let it rise for 1 hour. The dough should double in size for fluffy rolls.

Prepare Filling

  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a bowl. Spread softened butter on rolled dough later. This creates sweet and rich flavor inside the rolls.

Roll the Dough

  • Roll the dough into a large rectangle using a rolling pin. Make sure it is even and not too thick for proper baking.

Add Filling

  • Spread butter over the rolled dough. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar evenly on top. Press lightly so filling sticks well and does not fall out.

Shape the Rolls

  • Roll the dough tightly from one side. Cut into equal slices using a sharp knife. Place them in a greased baking dish.

Second Rise

  • Cover the rolls and let them rest for 20 minutes. This makes them soft and fluffy after baking. Do not skip this step.

Bake the Rolls

  • Preheat oven to 180°C. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown. The smell will be sweet and warm during baking.

Make the Icing

  • Mix powdered sugar, milk and vanilla extract. Stir until smooth. Pour over warm cinnamon rolls for a sweet finishing touch.

Serve Warm

  • Let rolls cool slightly before serving. Drizzle icing on top and enjoy soft, gooey cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven.

Notes

  • Use warm milk, not hot, for yeast activation.
  • Do not over-knead the dough.
  • Let dough rise in a warm place.
  • Use soft butter for easy spreading.
  • Cut rolls evenly for uniform baking.
  • Add extra cinnamon for stronger flavor.
