Ingredients

  • 4 cups sliced peaches fresh or canned, drained
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray. This prevents sticking and helps the cobbler bake evenly.

Prepare the Peaches

  • Place the sliced peaches in a mixing bowl. Add lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir gently so the peaches get coated with the sweet spice mixture.

Make the Batter

  • In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and granulated sugar. Pour in the milk and vanilla extract. Whisk until the batter becomes smooth and lump-free.

Add the Butter

  • Pour the melted butter into the greased baking dish. Spread it evenly on the bottom. Do not mix it with the batter yet.

Pour the Batter

  • Slowly pour the prepared batter over the melted butter in the dish. Do not stir them together. The batter will rise around the peaches while baking.

Add the Peaches

  • Spoon the peach mixture evenly over the batter. Spread them gently across the surface. The batter will move around the peaches during baking.

Bake the Cobbler

  • Place the dish in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes. The top should become golden brown and slightly crisp while the peaches bubble underneath.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. This helps the filling set slightly before serving warm.

Notes

  • Use ripe fresh peaches for the best flavor.
  • Canned peaches work well when fresh peaches are not available.
  • Do not stir the butter and batter. This creates the classic cobbler texture.
  • Add a little extra cinnamon for a warmer flavor.
  • Let the cobbler rest before serving so the filling thickens slightly.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
