Ingredients

  • Breakfast sausage – 1 pound
  • All-purpose flour – ¼ cup
  • Whole milk – 3 cups
  • Butter – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Black pepper – 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder – ¼ teaspoon

Instructions

Cook the Sausage

  • Place skillet on medium heat. Add sausage. Break it apart. Cook until brown and fully done.

Add Butter

  • Add butter to cooked sausage. Stir gently until butter melts and coats sausage pieces evenly.

Sprinkle Flour

  • Sprinkle flour over sausage. Stir well. Cook for one minute to remove raw flour taste.

Pour Milk Slowly

  • Pour milk slowly while stirring. This prevents lumps and helps gravy turn smooth.

Season the Gravy

  • Add salt, black pepper and garlic powder. Stir well until seasoning mixes evenly.

Simmer and Thicken

  • Let gravy simmer on low heat. Stir often. Cook until thick and creamy.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste gravy carefully. Add more salt or pepper if needed. Turn off heat.

Notes

  • Use full-fat milk for best creaminess.
  • Stir constantly to avoid lumps.
  • Do not rush the thickening process.
  • Add extra milk if gravy feels too thick.
  • Serve hot for best taste and texture.
