Ingredients

  • 2 lbs pork shoulder or pork butt
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Prepare the Pork

  • Place the pork shoulder on a cutting board. Trim excess fat if needed. Pat it dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick better and improves flavor.

Mix the Sauce

  • In a bowl, add barbecue sauce, chicken broth and apple cider vinegar. Add brown sugar and all spices. Mix well until smooth and fully combined.

Season the Pork

  • Rub salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder and onion powder all over the pork. Make sure every side is coated well for maximum flavor.

Add to Slow Cooker

  • Place the seasoned pork into the slow cooker. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the pork. Make sure it is covered well with the sauce.

Cook Slowly

  • Cover the slow cooker with a lid. Cook on low heat for 8 hours. The slow cooking makes the pork tender and juicy.

Check for Tenderness

  • After cooking, check the pork with a fork. It should break apart easily. If not, cook for another 30 minutes until soft.

Shred the Pork

  • Remove the pork from the slow cooker. Use two forks to shred it into small pieces. It should be very easy to pull apart.

Mix with Sauce

  • Put the shredded pork back into the slow cooker. Mix it with the remaining sauce. This adds more flavor and keeps it moist.

Cook for Extra Flavor

  • Cook the shredded pork for another 20 minutes on low heat. This helps the meat absorb all the delicious sauce.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Turn off the slow cooker. Serve the pulled pork warm. Enjoy it with buns, rice, or your favorite sides for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use pork shoulder for the best soft texture
  • Cook on low heat for better flavor
  • Do not rush the cooking time
  • Add extra barbecue sauce if you like it saucy
  • Let the pork rest before shredding for best results
