Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups peeled and diced potatoes
  • 1 cup frozen or fresh peas
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika optional

Instructions
 

Cook the Potatoes

  • Place diced potatoes in a saucepan with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 10–12 minutes. Potatoes should be soft but not mushy. Drain and set aside.

Cook the Peas

  • In a small saucepan, cook peas for 3–5 minutes until tender. If using fresh peas, make sure they are bright green. Drain and set aside with potatoes.

Make the Cream Sauce

  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add flour and stir to make a paste. Cook for one minute until lightly golden and smooth.

Add Milk and Cream

  • Slowly pour in milk and heavy cream. Stir constantly to avoid lumps. Cook for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens and is smooth.

Season the Sauce

  • Add salt, black pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Mix well. Taste and adjust seasonings. Add paprika if you want a light color and extra flavor.

Combine Peas and Potatoes

  • Add cooked peas and potatoes into the cream sauce. Stir gently until everything is coated. Cook for another 2–3 minutes to warm through.

Serve Hot

  • Transfer the creamed peas and potatoes to a serving dish. Serve immediately as a comforting side dish with your favorite main course.
