Ingredients

  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 small onion finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes 28 ounces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Extra Parmesan for serving

Instructions

Boil the Pasta

  • Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil. Add salt and pasta. Cook until tender according to package directions. Drain the pasta and keep aside.

Cook the Onion and Garlic

  • Heat olive oil in a deep skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until soft. Stir in garlic and cook for one minute until fragrant.

Add the Red Pepper Flakes

  • Sprinkle red pepper flakes into the pan. Stir well for a few seconds. This step gives the arrabbiata sauce its spicy and bold flavor.

Make the Tomato Sauce

  • Pour crushed tomatoes into the skillet. Add salt, black pepper and Italian seasoning. Stir everything well and let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes.

Add the Cream

  • Reduce the heat to low. Slowly pour heavy cream into the sauce. Stir gently until the sauce looks smooth, creamy and rich.

Mix in the Parmesan Cheese

  • Add grated Parmesan cheese into the sauce. Stir until melted completely. The cheese makes the sauce thicker and extra flavorful.

Combine Pasta and Sauce

  • Add cooked pasta into the creamy sauce. Toss everything together carefully. Make sure every piece of pasta gets coated with the spicy creamy sauce.

Garnish and Serve

  • Turn off the heat and sprinkle fresh parsley on top. Add more Parmesan cheese if desired. Serve warm with garlic bread or salad.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated Parmesan for the best flavor.
  • Do not overcook the pasta.
  • Add extra cream for a milder sauce.
  • Use fresh garlic instead of garlic powder.
  • Save some pasta water for thinning the sauce.
  • Add grilled chicken for extra protein.
  • Stir the sauce often while simmering.
  • Taste the sauce before serving and adjust seasoning.
