Ingredients

  • 2 racks pork baby back ribs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

Prepare the Ribs

  • Remove the thin membrane from the back of the ribs. Use a knife to loosen it gently. Pat the ribs dry with paper towels. This helps the seasoning stick better.

Season the Ribs

  • In a bowl, mix salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar and chili powder. Rub olive oil over the ribs. Sprinkle seasoning evenly on both sides.

Place in Crock Pot

  • Cut the ribs into smaller sections if needed. Stand them upright inside the crock pot. Pour water into the bottom. This keeps the ribs moist while cooking.

Add Barbecue Sauce

  • Pour one cup of barbecue sauce over the ribs. Spread it evenly using a spoon or brush. Reserve the remaining sauce for later.

Slow Cook the Ribs

  • Cover the crock pot with the lid. Cook on low for 6–8 hours. The ribs are ready when the meat becomes very tender and pulls away from the bone easily.

Broil for Extra Flavor (Optional)

  • Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F). Place cooked ribs on a baking sheet. Brush with remaining barbecue sauce. Broil for 5–7 minutes until slightly caramelized.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Remove ribs carefully using tongs. Let them rest for a few minutes. Slice and serve warm with extra barbecue sauce on the side.

Notes

  • Remove the membrane for softer ribs.
  • Cook on low for best tenderness.
  • Do not overfill the crock pot.
  • Add a little honey for sweeter ribs.
  • Broiling adds a smoky and crispy finish.
  • Let ribs rest before cutting.
