Ingredients

  • Refrigerated pizza dough – 1 pound
  • Mozzarella cheese – 2 cups shredded
  • Ricotta cheese – ½ cup
  • Pepperoni slices – ½ cup optional
  • Pizza sauce – ½ cup
  • Egg – 1 beaten
  • Italian seasoning – 1 teaspoon
  • Olive oil – 1 tablespoon

Instructions

Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare Dough

  • Roll pizza dough into a rectangle or circle on a floured surface. Keep it even for best results.

Add Cheese

  • Spread ricotta cheese on half of the dough. Sprinkle mozzarella evenly over ricotta.

Add Toppings

  • Place pepperoni or other fillings on top of cheese. Leave edges free for sealing calzone.

Fold Dough

  • Fold dough over fillings to make a half-moon shape. Press edges firmly to seal completely.

Brush With Egg

  • Brush beaten egg over the top of each calzone. This helps them turn golden and shiny.

Sprinkle Seasoning

  • Sprinkle Italian seasoning over top for extra flavor and nice color.

Bake Calzones

  • Place calzones on baking sheet. Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden and cooked through.

Serve Hot

  • Remove calzones from oven. Let cool slightly before serving. Serve with extra pizza sauce.

Notes

  • Use refrigerated dough for fast preparation.
  • Do not overfill calzones to prevent leaking.
  • Brush with egg for golden, shiny crust.
  • Preheat oven fully for even baking.
  • Let calzones cool slightly before cutting to avoid burning.
