Ingredients

  • Apples – 3 medium peeled and diced
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Brown sugar – ¼ cup
  • Cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
  • Nutmeg – ¼ teaspoon
  • Lemon juice – 1 tablespoon
  • Butter – 2 tablespoons
  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Milk – ¾ cup
  • Vegetable oil – for frying

Instructions

Cook the Apples

  • Add apples, sugars, butter, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice to a pan. Cook until soft and thick.

Cool the Filling

  • Remove apple filling from heat. Let it cool completely before using.

Prepare the Dough

  • Mix flour, salt, and baking powder. Add milk slowly and mix until soft dough forms.

Rest the Dough

  • Cover dough and rest for ten minutes. This helps rolling easier later.

Roll the Dough

  • Roll dough on a floured surface. Cut into medium circles using a cutter.

Fill the Pies

  • Place apple filling on half of each circle. Do not overfill the dough.

Seal the Edges

  • Fold dough over filling. Press edges firmly with fingers or a fork.

Heat the Oil

  • Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Oil should be hot but not smoking.

Fry the Pies

  • Place pies in oil carefully. Fry until golden brown on both sides.

Drain and Cool

  • Remove pies with slotted spoon. Place on paper towels to drain oil.

Notes

  • Use firm apples for best texture.
  • Do not overfill pies or they may burst.
  • Seal edges tightly before frying.
  • Fry in small batches for even cooking.
  • Let filling cool before using it.
