Preheat Oven

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with oil or butter.

Cook Meat

  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef, Italian sausage and onion over medium heat until browned.

Add Garlic

  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.

Add Sauces and Spices

  • Pour in marinara sauce, tomato sauce, basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Stir to combine.

Simmer Sauce

  • Reduce heat and simmer the sauce for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Prepare Ricotta Mixture

  • In a bowl, mix ricotta cheese, egg, and 1/4 cup Parmesan. Stir until smooth and creamy.

Layer Noodles

Add Cheese Layer

  • Spread a layer of ricotta mixture over noodles. Sprinkle 2/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese.

Repeat Layers

  • Repeat layers with noodles, meat sauce, ricotta and mozzarella until all ingredients are used.

Top with Cheese

  • Finish with a layer of meat sauce and remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Cover and Bake

  • Cover baking dish with aluminum foil. Bake for 25 minutes at 375°F (190°C).

Uncover and Bake Again

Garnish and Serve

Notes

  • Cook noodles al dente for best texture
  • Use fresh mozzarella for creamier layers
  • Simmer sauce to enhance flavor
  • Let lasagna cool slightly before slicing
