Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese freshly grated
  • 1 ½ cups baking mix like Bisquick
  • ¼ cup milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking tray with parchment paper. This prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier after baking.

Mix the Sausage and Cheese

  • In a large bowl, add ground sausage and grated cheddar cheese. Mix them together using clean hands or a spoon until evenly combined.

Add Dry Ingredients

  • Add baking mix, garlic powder and black pepper into the bowl. Mix everything slowly. Make sure the dry ingredients are evenly spread throughout the sausage mixture.

Pour in the Milk

  • Add milk to the mixture. Mix again until everything comes together. The mixture should feel slightly sticky but firm enough to shape.

Shape the Balls

  • Use your hands or a cookie scoop to form small balls. Each ball should be about one inch wide. Place them evenly on the tray.

Bake the Sausage Balls

  • Place the tray in the oven. Bake for 18–20 minutes until golden brown. The sausage should be fully cooked inside.

Cool and Serve

  • Remove from the oven and let them cool for five minutes. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use freshly grated cheese for better melting.
  • Do not overmix the dough. It can become tough.
  • If mixture feels dry, add one tablespoon milk.
  • Make balls equal size for even cooking.
  • Check internal temperature. It should reach 160°F.
