Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes about 2 cups mashed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 unbaked pie crust

Instructions

Cook the Sweet Potatoes

  • Wash the sweet potatoes well. Boil them in water until soft. This takes about 30 minutes. Let them cool, then peel the skin. Mash them until smooth with no lumps.

Prepare the Filling

  • Take a large mixing bowl. Add mashed sweet potatoes, sugar and melted butter. Mix well until smooth. Use a hand mixer for better texture.

Add Wet Ingredients

  • Add eggs, milk and vanilla extract to the mixture. Beat everything together until creamy. Make sure there are no lumps left in the batter.

Add Spices

  • Add cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Mix again until well combined. These spices give a warm and sweet flavor to the pie.

Prepare the Pie Crust

  • Place the unbaked pie crust into your pie pan. Press it gently to fit the shape. Trim any extra edges if needed.

Fill the Pie

  • Pour the sweet potato mixture into the crust. Spread it evenly using a spatula. Make sure the top is smooth.

Bake the Pie

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the pie in the oven. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes until the center is set.

Cool Before Serving

  • Remove the pie from the oven. Let it cool for at least one hour. This helps the filling firm up and taste better.

Notes

  • Use fresh sweet potatoes for the best flavor
  • Mash the potatoes very well for a smooth texture
  • Do not overbake, or the pie will crack
  • Let the pie cool fully before slicing
  • Add a little extra cinnamon for stronger flavor
  • Use a ready-made crust to save time
