Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped dill pickles
  • 1 tablespoon pickle juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped onion optional

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients

  • Start by gathering all the ingredients. Finely chop the dill pickles and parsley. If using onion, chop it very small. Fresh ingredients will make the tartar sauce taste bright and fresh.

Add Mayonnaise to Bowl

  • Place the mayonnaise in a medium mixing bowl. This creamy base gives the sauce its smooth texture. Use good quality mayonnaise for the best flavor.

Add Pickles and Onion

  • Add the finely chopped dill pickles and chopped onion to the mayonnaise. These ingredients add crunch and tangy flavor. Stir gently so they mix evenly with the mayonnaise.

Add Lemon Juice and Pickle Juice

  • Pour the lemon juice and pickle juice into the bowl. These ingredients add freshness and balance the creamy mayonnaise. Mix everything slowly until the liquid blends well.

Add Mustard and Seasonings

  • Add Dijon mustard, sugar, salt and black pepper. These ingredients bring extra flavor and a slight tangy taste. Stir the mixture until smooth and well combined.

Add Fresh Herbs

  • Add the chopped parsley to the sauce. Fresh herbs give color and a light flavor. Mix again until the parsley spreads evenly throughout the tartar sauce.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the sauce with a spoon. If needed, add a little more lemon juice or salt. Adjust the flavors until the tartar sauce tastes balanced and delicious.

Chill Before Serving

  • Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. Chilling helps the flavors blend together and makes the sauce taste even better.

Serve the Sauce

  • After chilling, stir the sauce again. Transfer it to a serving bowl. Your homemade tartar sauce is now ready to enjoy with your favorite seafood dishes.

Notes

  • Use fresh lemon juice for better flavor.
  • Chop the pickles very finely for smooth texture.
  • Chill the sauce before serving for the best taste.
  • Add capers for extra tangy flavor.
  • Adjust salt and lemon juice based on your taste.
