Ingredients

  • 8 oz egg noodles
  • 2 cans 5 oz each tuna, drained
  • 1 can 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup crushed potato chips or breadcrumbs for topping

Instructions

Cook the Noodles

  • Boil egg noodles in salted water until tender. Drain them well in a colander. Set aside while you prepare the sauce.

Prepare the Sauce

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine cream of mushroom soup, mayonnaise, milk, salt and pepper. Whisk until smooth and creamy for the perfect casserole base.

Mix in Tuna and Peas

  • Add drained tuna and frozen peas to the sauce. Stir gently to combine. Ensure tuna is evenly mixed for consistent flavor in every bite.

Combine with Noodles

  • Add cooked noodles to the sauce mixture. Stir gently until noodles are fully coated. This ensures every noodle gets creamy flavor and soft texture.

Add Cheese

  • Fold in 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese. Mix lightly so it spreads evenly. Cheese adds richness and a comforting flavor to the casserole.

Transfer to Baking Dish

  • Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Spread evenly using a spatula. This helps the casserole bake uniformly.

Add Topping

  • Sprinkle crushed potato chips or breadcrumbs evenly over the top. This adds a crunchy texture and golden color when baked.

Bake the Casserole

  • Place the dish in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes until bubbly and golden on top. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Frozen peas can be substituted with other vegetables like carrots or corn
  • Crushed potato chips give extra flavor, but breadcrumbs work too
  • Use cooked noodles al dente; they will absorb sauce while baking
  • Avoid overbaking to keep casserole creamy inside
  • Use canned tuna in water for lighter flavor
  • Add extra cheese for a richer taste
