Ingredients

  • 4 cups carrots peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons whiskey
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon optional
  • 2 tablespoons water

Instructions

Prepare the Carrots

  • Wash, peel and slice the carrots into even pieces. Try to keep the size similar so they cook evenly and become soft at the same time.

Heat the Pan

  • Place a large skillet on medium heat. Add butter and let it melt slowly. This creates a rich base for cooking the carrots.

Add the Carrots

  • Put the sliced carrots into the pan. Stir well so they are coated with butter. Cook for a few minutes until slightly tender.

Add Sugar and Water

  • Add brown sugar and water to the carrots. Stir well to combine. The sugar will start to melt and create a sweet glaze.

Pour the Whiskey

  • Carefully add whiskey to the pan. Stir gently and let it cook. The alcohol will cook off, leaving a rich and warm flavor.

Add Seasoning

  • Add salt, black pepper and cinnamon if using. Mix everything well. These spices bring balance and enhance the sweetness of the carrots.

Cook Until Tender

  • Let the carrots cook for about 10–12 minutes. Stir occasionally. They should become soft and coated in a thick, shiny glaze.

Check the Texture

  • Use a fork to check if the carrots are soft. If not, cook for a few more minutes. Do not overcook to avoid mushy texture.

Reduce the Sauce

  • Allow the sauce to thicken slightly. This step gives the carrots a glossy and rich coating that looks very appetizing.

Serve Warm

  • Turn off the heat and transfer to a serving dish. Serve warm for the best taste and texture. Enjoy your homemade carrots.

Notes

  • Use fresh carrots for best flavor
  • Cut carrots evenly for even cooking
  • Do not skip butter for richness
  • Cook whiskey properly to remove alcohol taste
  • Add honey for extra sweetness if desired
