Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk cold
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing

Instructions
 

Step 1:

  • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).

Step 2:

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Step 3:

  • Cut in cold butter with a pastry cutter until crumbly.

Step 4:

  • Pour in cold buttermilk and stir gently until dough forms.

Step 5:

  • Turn dough onto a floured surface. Roll lightly to 1-inch thickness.

Step 6:

  • Cut biscuits with a round cutter or glass.

Step 7:

  • Place biscuits on a baking sheet close together.

Step 8:

  • Bake for 12–15 minutes until golden brown on top.

Step 9:

  • Brush hot biscuits with melted butter before serving.

Notes

  • Use very cold butter for flaky layers.
  • Don’t overwork the dough or biscuits will be tough.
  • Place biscuits close together for better rise.
  • Buttermilk adds tang and keeps them tender.
  • Serve hot for the best flavor and texture.
