Ingredients

For the Crust & Crumble:

  • All-purpose flour – 2 cups
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Brown sugar optional – 2 tablespoons
  • Salt – ¼ teaspoon
  • Baking powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Butter cold, cubed – 1 cup (2 sticks)
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon

For the Filling:

  • Raspberry jam – 1 cup

Instructions

Mix the Dry Items

  • Add flour, sugar, salt and baking powder to a bowl. Stir until everything mixes evenly without lumps.

Add the Butter

  • Cut in softened butter and mix. Use your hands or a fork until the mix looks crumbly.

Save Some Crumble

  • Take out some crumble mix for topping later. Keep it aside in a small bowl.

Add Wet Items

  • Add vanilla extract to the main bowl. Mix gently until the base mixture comes together slightly.

Fill the Baking Pan

  • Line a baking pan with parchment. Press the base mixture firmly into the pan to form a crust.

Spread Raspberry Jam

  • Add raspberry jam on top of the crust. Spread it evenly with a spatula for a smooth layer.

Add Crumble Topping

  • Sprinkle the saved crumble across the jam. Try to cover the jam evenly for a crisp top.

Bake the Squares

  • Bake until the top turns golden and crisp. The jam should bubble slightly around the edges.

Cool Completely

  • Let the bars cool fully before cutting. This helps the squares hold their shape nicely.

Notes

  • Use good-quality raspberry jam for strong flavor.
  • Add lemon zest for a bright taste.
  • Do not overbake or the crust may turn too hard.
  • Use cold butter for the best crumble texture.
  • Add nuts for extra crunch if you like.
