- 2 smoked ham shanks
- 1 large onion chopped
- 3 cloves garlic minced
- 2 carrots chopped
- 2 celery stalks chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp thyme
- 4 cups water or broth
