Sour Cream Donuts Recipe are soft, sweet and so easy to make at home. They taste just like bakery donuts but fresher and warmer.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Oil for frying

For the glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 –3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions
 

Mix the Dry Ingredients

  • Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt into a bowl. Mix them well with a whisk.

Beat Wet Ingredients

  • In another bowl, whisk sour cream, eggs, melted butter, sugar and vanilla until smooth and creamy.

Combine Dough

  • Add the dry mix to the wet mix slowly. Stir until a soft dough forms. Do not overmix it.

Chill the Dough

  • Place the dough in the fridge for 15 minutes. This makes shaping easier.

Roll the Dough

  • Dust your surface with flour. Roll the dough to medium thickness. Not too thin.

Cut Donuts

  • Use a donut cutter to cut out donut rings. Place them on a tray.

Heat the Oil

  • Warm oil in a deep pot over medium heat. Do not make the oil too hot.

Fry the Donuts

  • Add donuts gently into the oil. Fry each side for 1–2 minutes until golden.

Drain the Donuts

  • Remove donuts with a slotted spoon. Place them on a cooling rack.

Make the Glaze

  • Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth. Adjust milk for thickness.

Dip the Donuts

  • Dip warm donuts into the glaze. Let extra glaze drip off for clean coating.

Let Them Set

  • Place donuts back on the rack. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use cold dough for the best shape.
  • Do not overmix, or the donuts become dense.
  • Keep oil at medium heat for even cooking.
  • Glaze the donuts while they are warm.
  • Use fresh sour cream for the best flavor.
