Ingredients

  • Ripe bananas – 4 medium
  • Granulated sugar – ½ cup
  • Brown sugar – ¼ cup
  • All-purpose flour – 1 cup
  • Baking powder – 1 teaspoon
  • Salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Butter melted – 4 tablespoons
  • Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon – ½ teaspoon optional

Instructions

Preheat the Oven

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish with butter. This ensures the cobbler does not stick.

Slice the Bananas

  • Peel bananas and slice them into medium pieces. Spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle ¼ cup granulated sugar on top.

Prepare the Batter

  • In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, salt, remaining sugar, milk, melted butter and vanilla. Whisk until smooth and lump-free.

Pour Batter Over Bananas

  • Evenly pour the batter over the bananas. Do not stir. The batter will rise around the bananas as it bakes.

Add Cinnamon

  • Sprinkle ground cinnamon and brown sugar evenly on top of the batter. This adds a golden color and extra sweetness.

Bake the Cobbler

  • Place the baking dish in the oven. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown. The top should feel firm, and edges should bubble slightly.

Cool Slightly Before Serving

  • Let the cobbler cool for 5–10 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream, or enjoy it plain.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best sweetness.
  • Do not stir batter over bananas; it bakes better untouched.
  • Brown sugar adds extra richness to the topping.
  • Let the cobbler rest slightly before serving.
  • Add a pinch of nutmeg for more flavor if desired.
