Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Fresh parsley optional

Instructions

Peel the Potatoes

  • Peel all potatoes carefully. Remove any dark spots and keep the pieces clean and smooth for cooking.

Cut the Potatoes

  • Cut potatoes into medium cubes. Keep the size even so the potatoes cook at the same speed.

Rinse the Potatoes

  • Place the cut potatoes in a colander. Rinse under cold water to remove extra starch for better texture.

Add Potatoes to Pot

  • Place the rinsed potatoes into a large pot. Make sure the pot is big enough to avoid spills.

Add Water and Salt

  • Pour water over potatoes. Add salt for flavor. Make sure the water barely covers the potato cubes.

Bring to a Boil

  • Turn the heat to high. Let the water boil fully before lowering the heat for slower cooking.

Cook the Potatoes

  • Simmer potatoes on medium. Cook until soft and tender. Stir gently to prevent breaking them too much.

Add Butter

  • Add butter to the hot potatoes. Stir until melted and mixed well with the soft cooked pieces.

Add Milk

  • Pour milk slowly into the pot. Stir gently to create a creamy and smooth sauce with the potatoes.

Season Well

  • Add pepper, garlic powder and onion powder. Stir until everything blends into a thick, tasty mixture.

Thicken the Sauce

  • Simmer for a few minutes. Let the sauce thicken naturally as the potatoes release some starch.

Taste and Adjust

  • Taste the dish before serving. Add extra salt or pepper if you want a stronger flavor.

Add Parsley

  • Sprinkle fresh parsley on top. This adds color and a fresh flavor that balances the creamy potatoes.

Serve Warm

  • Serve the potatoes hot with your favorite main dish. Enjoy the creamy texture and rich buttery taste.

Notes

  • Use russet potatoes for a creamy texture.
  • Cut all potato cubes the same size.
  • Do not over-stir to avoid mashed potatoes.
  • Add more milk for a thinner sauce.
  • Use heavy cream instead of milk for richer flavor.
  • Add cheese for a thicker and richer version.
  • Taste before serving and adjust seasoning.
